Where we are now: Cases are rising in our communities.
COVID-19 cases and hospitalization rates are rising in our communities as many return to normal life and we cope with new strains of the virus. Getting vaccinated and taking precautions like masking and physical distancing remain essential. The current situation is dynamic and evolving.
- The last week of May, the average daily number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients at CoxHealth was 27. By comparison, the last week of June this number was 93.
- Recently, many more young, healthy individuals without comorbidities are being hospitalized due to COVID-19, including pediatric patients.
- Over 7,000 CoxHealth employees have been vaccinated; of these, around 20 have contracted COVID-19 but have had no or mild symptoms, and none have been hospitalized.
- Of the 5,000 unvaccinated CoxHealth employees, several hundred have contracted COVID-19, with six being hospitalized in just a two-week period of time.
Less than 40% of southwest Missouri is vaccinated. Vaccination rates will need to be 70% to achieve community immunity. Please get vaccinated and take precautions to protect yourself and our community.
