About the Emergency Communications Center

The Emergency Communications Center (ECC) at CoxHealth is a core component of CoxHealth EMS, serving as the centralized hub for emergency medical dispatch, air medical coordination, and hospital emergency communications. Operating 24/7/365, the ECC functions as a secondary public safety answering point specializing in emergency medical dispatch, ensuring rapid call processing, accurate triage, and the timely deployment of appropriate resources. The center is accredited by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch as a Center of Excellence (ACE), reflecting the highest standards in protocol compliance, quality assurance, and care.

In addition to managing emergency medical services requests, the ECC coordinates Cox Air Care helicopter and critical care ground transport operations, providing real-time flight following, mission coordination, and communication support for crews in the field. As part of the Cox Air Care program, these services operate under accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS), demonstrating adherence to nationally recognized standards for safety, clinical excellence, and operational performance. The ECC also serves as the hospital's emergency communications hub, managing internal emergency alerts and system-wide emergency response coordination during critical events.
