With confirmed flu cases continuing to climb in Greene County, the local health care community has opted to implement visitor restrictions to hospital facilities in the area.

Children ages 14 and under not seeking medical treatment will not be permitted to visit patients in CoxHealth or Mercy hospitals until further notice, beginning today, Thursday, Dec. 28.

Children are asked not visit for the protection of patients, hospital staff and the children themselves. Children under the age of 14 tend to have a high rate of flu illness.

For the week of Dec. 17-23, 241 people had lab-confirmed flu in Greene County. That’s up from 84 cases reported during the previous week.

Please note that it's not too late to be vaccinated against the flu. CoxHealth offers flu shots at its walk-in, retail-based clinics, as well as its family practice centers.

If one does feel sick, please note that CoxHealth offers treatment via DirectConnect, its telemedicine tool, for only $20.
