Girls Just Wanna Run 5K/10K to benefit local ongoing wellness efforts

July 5, 2016 Newsroom, Springfield

Girls Just Wanna Run – Springfield’s first women-only 5K/10K – is running into town on July 16.

The event, which is open to women of all ages, is raising money for FitLife. Operated by CoxHealth’s fitness centers, FitLife is a 12-week health management program that educates, encourages and empowers people to take back their health.

The fun, however, is more than just the race itself. A “Fun Before the Run” expo, held from 2 – 6 p.m. at The Meyer Center, kicks things off the day before. More than 40 vendors will offer participants the chance to see some of the latest and greatest trends for women in fitness, health and beauty – and pick up a race-day t-shirt.

The race starts at 7:30 a.m. on July 16, and begins and ends at Cox North’s Fountain Plaza Room.

Participants may run or walk either 5K or 10K through one of Springfield’s historical areas. After the race is over, a block party with refreshments, music, massage and more vendors will provide a great way to wrap up the morning. Awards will also be presented during this time – and this year, all finishers receive a medal.

Cost is $30 for the 5K ($35 day-of race) and $35 for the 10K ($40 day-of race). There are reduced rates for children ages 5-14. Click here to register for the event, or call 417-269-3282 for more information.
