Cox Branson mammographer celebrates 43 years of service

The Women’s Center’s lead mammographer has strolled the halls for 43 years now and says she’s raised her family here. “There’s something to be said about trusting a hospital to care for your own family,” Berberia said. “Over the years, the facility has grown in size but the foundation has always stayed the same – genuinely give care to the people who need us as if they’re our own family. I’ve always been really proud of that part and it makes staying here an easy decision.”

Berberia has seen the full evolution of mammography. Starting all those years ago with simple x-ray equipment and now utilizing the highest tech form of screening – 3D mammograms.

“Thinking back, it’s really unbelievable how far we’ve come.” Berberia said. “I see these women face-to-face. They put their trust in us. It’s hard not to put myself in their shoes. I just take it personally to do the best job I can both technically and in showing compassion. Kindness makes a difference, especially to someone who is scared and afraid of the unknown future.”

More than four decades into her career here, Berberia isn’t so sure she’s ready to slow down yet. “Hopefully, I still have many years in me,” she said. “I love what I do and the people I work with. As long as I’m healthy and able, then I plan to stick around.”
