CoxHealth believes that in order for prices to be meaningful, a personalized price estimate is needed. Prices for a particular procedure or episode of care can vary based on the specific services provided as well as the degree of complexity due to the needs and/or specific condition of the patient. Personalized price estimates are CoxHealth’s primary source of price information because they include, where applicable, facility charges, estimates of payer allowable and patient out-of-pocket responsibility to provide meaningful information to consumers.

How can I get an estimate of what I will owe for my hospital services?

Personalized price estimates can be provided to you by financial counseling or pre-registration staff prior to your service. You may request the estimate at any time; or for services that are scheduled ahead of time, they will offer it to you either when you pre-register by phone or in person at the point of registration.

How is a price estimate prepared?

Price estimation and insurance eligibility software is utilized to evaluate historical charging patterns, current pricing, payer allowables, and your insurance plan benefits against the service you are planning to have.  The benefits identifying co-pay, deductibles and coinsurance are applied to the allowable to estimate the patient’s out-of-pocket responsibility as closely as possible. 

Will my hospital bill match the estimate?

We strive to provide as close an estimate as possible and use ongoing feedback from our patients and staff to continuously improve.  However, the estimates are based on historical charging patterns and can only be provided based on what is known at the time the estimate is prepared.   Prices for a particular procedure or episode of care can vary once performed based on the specific services you actually received as well as the degree of complexity and/or your specific condition.  Additionally, your insurance plan benefit information can change.
