CoxHealth Virtual Nurses Earn Prestigious CAVRN Certification
Six CoxHealth team members have earned the Certified Acute-Care Virtual Registered Nurse (CAVRN) certification, one of the newest and most elite credentials in health care.
By the end of 2024, just 65 nurses nationwide had received this certification—six of them are now at CoxHealth.
Congratulations to Kaylie Weltsch, nurse manager; Emma Sneed and Dana Hultgren, assistant nurse managers; Jessica Muilenburg Hanna Dela Cuesta and Katy Hensley, registered nurses, who are now nationally certified experts in virtual acute care nursing.
“This certification validates the expert-level knowledge of virtual care in the health care industry,” Weltsch said. “You have to stay up to par with the latest literature to keep the certification. Having it makes us a better resource—not just for the nurses on the floor, but for the patients, too.”
Virtual nursing is an emerging model of care that enhances bedside support using real-time technology. The CAVRN credential ensures nurses are equipped to meet the demands of this rapidly evolving field.
“It’s the best of both worlds—you get to see care from a different perspective of the bedside,” Dela Cuesta said. “I take pride in being one of the few nurses to have this certification.”
Unlike traditional credentials, the CAVRN requires nurses to engage deeply with current research, as official study guides do not yet exist.
Sneed said her transition to virtual nursing came at the perfect time. “It’s interesting to see how you connect with patients just over a camera and still make such an impact,” she said. “I’m in love with virtual care. It’s phenomenal to see how all the nurses collaborate and the difference they make for patients.”
Please join us in celebrating the trailblazing achievements of our virtual care team!
