222 Steps and Beyond: How Karen Walked Her Way Back to Joy
Just a few months ago, walking the 222 steps to her mailbox was impossible for 80-year-old Karen Pattison. Chronic pain in her right hip had significantly affected her independence, and surgery seemed a possibility until she turned to the physical therapy team at Cox Barton County Hospital.
“It got to the point where I couldn’t do the things I loved,” Karen reflects. “Even getting around the house was a struggle, but I wasn’t ready to give up.”
Determined to improve her situation, Karen began physical therapy with the hospital's expert rehabilitation staff. With a customized treatment plan and her strong determination, she has made steady progress.
“The therapists pushed me, but in the best way,” she smiled. “They understood what I could achieve, even when I didn’t.”
After months of dedicated effort, Karen's transformation was undeniable. She not only made it to her mailbox but is now back to enjoying her favorite activities, such as trips to Branson, walks through Silver Dollar City, and tending to her flower gardens.
“I feel like I got my life back,” she says. “I’m active again, and I owe it all to the wonderful team who worked with me. I tell everyone I know to go to our local hospital; they will take care of you.”
Karen’s story is one of many that highlight the impact of compassionate, five-star care close to home, including the exceptional work of the physical therapy team. From pain relief to life-changing progress, they help patients of all ages remain strong, active, and independent.
