Job Summary
  • This armed position manages an operational shift of CoxHealth security officers dedicated to the safety and security of an assigned geographical area within the health system. The Sergeant practices effective problem identification, applies preventative, protective, and defensive tactics, seeks appropriate solutions, and requests assistance as necessary. The sergeant documents observations and actions in department reports. This position supports department leaders in running the department’s day-to-day support functions.

Job Requirements
  • Education
    • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Experience
    • Required: 2 years of related security or law enforcement experience.
    • Required: Must be 21 years of age.
    • Required: Must meet Requirements for Operating Vehicles Owned by CoxHealth System Policy, which includes no serious driving violations during the past five years. Serious violations are defined in the CoxHealth System Policy.
  • Skills
      • Able to communicate clearly in a variety of situations.
      • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, including senior leadership, site leadership, and entry-level personnel
      • Strong leadership skills
      • Exceptional customer service skills
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
      • Learn, interpret, and apply the policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations about assigned programs and functions
      • Work well with a variety of people, including staff and personnel from other agencies
      • Proven ability to work as part of a high-performance team
      • Proficiency with computers as well as word processing, data management, and spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Office products
      • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted during work
      • Ability to perform duties while maintaining a high degree of judgment, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration
    • Required: Active Driver’s License
    • Required: Complete department specific training to carry firearms within 30 days of hire
    • Required: Must obtain IAHSS Security Supervisor certification within 90 days of hire
    • Preferred: Completion of the Missouri POST Licensure requirements
