Summer 2023 DAISY Award Honorees

Each quarter, CoxHealth recognizes nurses who have provided outstanding care with DAISY Awards. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is presented in medical facilities throughout the United States to recognize the education, training, skill and compassionate care nurses provide. Patients, their friends and families, colleagues, physicians and volunteers may nominate a nurse for the award.

Here are the summer 2023 Springfield honorees:

Scotty Turner, RN and Patient Care Manager, Emergency Department-South

Scotty was nominated by a colleague for his work as a Patient Care Manager, where he assisted a family that had recently been in an accident, and, unfortunately, lost their child. The parents were transported to a different hospital than their child following the accident.

“Scotty worked tirelessly to arrange for the parents to be released from care so they could come to be with the baby they lost. Scotty not only provided care to the baby, but he also provided support to the parents and the staff involved in the resuscitative measures. He was the first person there for those who were struggling, and his compassion and genuine kindness did not go unnoticed.

“Being a Patient Care Manager is difficult because you have to advocate for the patients, support their families, and also be there for your staff. Scotty exceeds expectations and goes out of his way to be sure anyone who is in the department is cared for. I am truly so fortunate to work for someone like him.”

Jessica Muilenburg, RN, Med-Surg Pulmonary Department

Jessica was nominated by a peer for going above and beyond to provide comfort and compassion to a patient in their final moments.

“The patient’s family was not able to come and we were unable to utilize the 'No One Dies Alone' program. Jessica sat at the patient’s bedside during their final hours and helped comfort them as they passed away. She went above and beyond as she usually does. She absolutely personifies the mission and values of CoxHealth. She is phenomenal.”
