The Medical Explorers program offers young adults the chance to see if a career in the health care industry is right for them – and registration for the next chance to participate is right around the corner. Applications will be accepted for the upcoming session from July 25 to August 26.

“Medical Explorers is a great opportunity for students to learn about the medical field and see if a career in health care is right for them,” says Ruth Huntsman, Cox Medical Center Branson’s Medical Explorers coordinator. “Considering the demand for professionals in the industry, this program is more important than ever before.”

The program is open to students ages 15-20, and gives them the opportunity to shadow and interact with providers across the field. Students attend monthly meetings where they are introduced to a variety of health care topics. They also have the opportunity to participate in rotations where they can spend time in various departments throughout the hospital, including labor and delivery, emergency department, radiology, laboratory and more. CoxHealth Medical Explorers began in 1968, and is the second-largest – and oldest – program in the country. The program was extended last year for the first time to the Branson campus with more than 75 students taking advantage of the opportunity.
