New CARE Mobile increases access to health care for Springfield Public Schools students
Beginning in the 2022-2023 school year, there will be a new CARE Mobile unit offering basic health care to students in the Springfield Public Schools system.
Beginning in the 2022-2023 school year, there will be a new CARE Mobile unit offering basic health care to students in the Springfield Public Schools system. A pediatric clinic on wheels, the program is a partnership between Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, CoxHealth and a large family of supporters.
Throughout the school year, the CARE Mobile will routinely be scheduled to visit schools across the district for students to access hearing and vision screenings, immunization and flu clinics, sports physicals and well child exams. Springfield Public Schools is partnering with CoxHealth to provide the mobile health services at no cost to students. The school nurse can schedule an appointment on the CARE Mobile for a student on a day when the unit is at their school.
“We’ve supported Springfield Public Schools with our other CARE Mobile unit for the past year, but being able to provide a unit specific to these students is really special,” says Shannon Jones, Children’s Miracle Network care coordinator at CoxHealth. “This will allow the other CARE Mobile unit to focus on additional needs across 26 counties and increase access to care for children across the Ozarks.”
All services on the CARE Mobile are staffed by board-certified CoxHealth nurse practitioners, working with local physicians who serve as medical directors. The CARE Mobile offers basic health care to children from two months through age 18. Services do not replace primary care, but support children and families.
