Interpretive Services

Interpreting services are available for patients as needed.

Nurse Phones

You'll see our nursing staff using cell phones while on duty. These aren't personal phones. They cannot use them to call or text friends and family. These phones belong to CoxHealth. The phones connect to your medical record. Nurses use the phones to talk to other members of your health care team. They help the nurse give you medicine safely. Your nurse is alerted on their phone when your call light is on so you'll get attention fast.

Patient Education Videos

Tune in to channel 2 on the TV in your room for information about CoxHealth. Your nurse may assign videos for you to watch to help you learn more about your care. The videos are free. To watch videos, dial 69-7191 from your bedside phone or ask your nurse for help.

Rapid Response Team

Dial 333 from a hospital phone and tell the operator you need the rapid response team. Give the patient's room number or location.

Reasons to call the Rapid Response Team

• Weakness in the face, arms, or legs
• Chest pain or a fast heartbeat
• Change in the color of the skin to pale or gray
• Sudden sweating
• Difficulty walking or speaking
• Change in alertness
• Less awake than normal or agitated
• Sudden loss of consciousness or fainting
• Bleeding or a seizure
• Any change in the way they look or feel

When to call the Rapid Response Team

• If you feel the patient's medical condition is quickly getting worse
• If you aren't able to get help by calling for the nurse

Telecommunications Device for the Deaf

Ask your nurse for information.

Medical Durable Power of Attorney

• Helps to define your treatment preferences for end-of-life care beyond advance directives
• Used throughout your care from home, doctor's office, and hospital admissions
• Transfers easily from one health care facility to another, if necessary

Support Services

Bedside Prescription Delivery

Delivery is available Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tell your nurse you want your new prescription medicines delivered to you in your patient room.

• A pharmacy representative will visit with you to discuss your medicine.
• Insurance copays apply.
• Payment is due at the time of delivery.
• Talk to your nurse if you need help paying for your medicine.

CoxHealth Plaza Hotel

Reserve a Room

This 25-room hotel is conveniently located on the second floor of Wheeler Heart & Vascular Center, directly across the street from Cox South, via the National Avenue Skywalk. To learn more information, stop by the registration desk or call 417-269-5900. Other hotel arrangements may be made through the Customer Service office at 417-269-4112. 

Music Program

Music helps improve blood pressure, manage stress, alleviate pain, and improve overall mood. Musicians on Call and Music Pharmacy provide patients and their families with music to promote positivity and healing and noise-canceling headphones. Speak with your nurse if you would like these services.

Notary Service

This service is only for health care related documents, such as advance directives and durable power of attorney for health care.

Pastoral Care

Chaplains are available for spiritual counseling and support. Ask your nurse or contact the Pastoral Care department. Cox Medical Center South has a chapel that is always open on the first floor by the north entrance and a second on the ground floor by the Emergency Department.

Pet Therapy

A dog and their handler will visit your hospital room. They'll help provide comfort and enjoyment as you cope with health problems. Call Volunteer Services or tell your nurse if you want pet therapy. It may take 24 hours to fulfill your request.

Ronald McDonald House

The Ronald McDonald House of the Ozarks is located across Primrose Avenue from Cox South and provides low-cost lodging for parents and siblings of children hospitalized at Cox South. For more information, call 417-885-0500.
