CoxHealth at Home offers a complete line of products and supplies prescribed for patients who are unable to maintain nutritional needs through a typical diet. The therapy can be a short- or long-term need based on the patient’s clinical condition for enteral nutrition. Therapy can be initiated in a patient’s home and administered via bolus, gravity, infusion pump, or even taken orally.
Enteral Nutrition
Enteral feeding is nutrition taken through the mouth or through a tube that goes directly to the stomach or small intestine. A person on enteral feeds usually has a condition or injury that prevents eating a regular diet by mouth, but their GI tract is still able to function.
Being fed through a tube allows them to receive nutrition and keep their GI tract working. Enteral feeding may make up their entire caloric intake or may be used as a supplement.
Dietitian Support
CoxHealth at Home partners with highly skilled dietitians and staff to aid and educate in the use of equipment and provide nutritional assessments for patients.
Our dietitians play a vital role on the health care team by providing nutritional care to patients in various disease states and conditions. Compromised nutrition can lead to slow healing and recovery.
Our CoxHealth dietitians monitor, assess, and optimize nutrition status based on the patient’s current medical condition and/or nutrition adequacy. They confer with physicians and other health care professionals to coordinate medical and nutritional needs, and they make recommendations for tube and intravenous feedings and/or dietary supplements. They also teach patients how to make nutritionally sound food choices to speed the recovery process, prevent disease, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
