Cox Barton County Hospital has earned national distinction as one of the top 20 Critical Access Hospitals in the nation for overall performance, the highest recognition awarded. Recognized by the Chartis Center for Rural Health and announced by the National Rural Health Association, this honor reflects the hospital's commitment to exceptional patient experience, operational excellence and high-quality care.

For the third consecutive year, Cox Barton County Hospital is recognized as a 2025 Top 100 Critical Access Hospital by The Chartis Center for Rural Health. Chartis’ annual Top 100 award program recognizes outstanding performance among the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®️. Only two rural hospitals in Missouri, including Cox Barton County Hospital, have earned this top honor.

Stroke Care

Cox Barton County Hospital is a Level III Stroke Center, the highest achievable level for a 25-bed critical access hospital. The hospital has been recognized for its commitment to delivering quality care, earning multiple Get With The Guidelines® achievement awards from the American Heart Association.

Communication

Cox Barton County Hospital and Cox Monett Hospital received five stars for nurse communication from Becker's Hospital Review, a national publication in the health care industry.

Patient Experience

Cox Barton County Hospital received two Human Experience awards for its outstanding performance in the ambulatory surgery services category – Pinnacle of Excellence Award® and the Guardian of Excellence Award® from Press Ganey. 

• The Pinnacle of Excellence Award® recognizes Cox Barton County Hospital for demonstrating high levels of performance and excellence in patient experience.
• The Guardian of Excellence Award® honors Cox Barton County Hospital for its performance in the teamwork category. This marks the second consecutive year Cox Barton County Hospital has earned the Guardian of Excellence Award® – last year, the hospital was recognized for its inpatient services.   

Becker’s Hospital Review recognized Cox Barton County Hospital as one of the top 5% of all hospitals in the nation for patient experience.

Becker’s Hospital Review, a leading national health care publication, recently listed Cox Barton County Hospital as one of the cleanest hospitals in the nation. This is a significant achievement, indicating that the Environmental Services team at Cox Barton County Hospital has consistently met high standards in infection control, sanitation, and patient safety.   

Cox Barton County Hospital earned five stars in patient experience from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
