August 12, 2025 Press Releases

Cox Medical Centers’ Graduate Nurse Residency program has again earned “Accreditation with Distinction” from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the highest possible honor under the ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program ℠. The reaccreditation marks sustained excellence in preparing newly graduated nurses for the critical transition into professional practice.

This reaccreditation acknowledges that Cox Medical Centers has maintained top-tier standards in program leadership, outcome measurement, organizational enculturation, development and design and practice-based learning and simulation.

“We’re proud to continue to provide an industry-leading model as the only residency in southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas with this rare distinction,” says Dr. Gina Larson, administrative director of nursing/professional development. “This reaccreditation highlights CoxHealth’s unwavering dedication to nurturing exceptional nurses and delivering the highest caliber of patient care across our region.”

The program’s highlights include:

  • A total of 12-24 weeks of intensive simulation and unit-specific training, followed by monthly education during the first year
  • Cohorts of 100+ nurses per cycle, tuition-free
  • Proven outcomes in leadership, critical thinking, evidence-based practice and professional development
  • Seamless transition into CoxHealth’s clinical ladder, certification support and other system resources

The rigorous ANCC review process includes submission of written evidence, resident survey data and evaluation through virtual site visits.
