Steiner leads with heart and celebrates the small wins

When Meagan Steiner learned that she had been named a 2025 Springfield Business Journal Health Care Champion, her initial reaction was one of shock.

"I honestly thought the email was spam at first,” says Meagan. “Once I realized it was legitimate, the tears started running down my face. I feel so honored because I believe all my hard work and dedication have paid off. I strive to come to work every day to make a difference."

As a staff educator for patient experience at Cox Medical Center Branson, Meagan works behind the scenes to ensure that patients feel valued, heard, and cared for. She supports the staff in creating meaningful connections that extend far beyond clinical care.

“I work with our staff to educate them on how we can better care for our patients through therapeutic communication, compassion, and empathy,” says Meagan. “It's essential to take extra time to get to know our patients and understand their situations. Ultimately, it’s about being present for people during the moments that truly matter.”

For Meagan, the best part of her job is the people – coworkers and patients alike; she finds joy in the little moments that remind her why she loves what she does.

“This award belongs to everyone at Cox Branson,” she says. “We are like a close-knit family, and I believe we all go above and beyond to ensure that our patients are our number one priority.”

What’s next for Meagan? In the coming year, she plans to complete her degree to become a registered nurse. She believes this will open doors for growth in her career as a patient experience educator. Although she admits that after 16 years, the prospect is a bit daunting, she feels that now is the right time to pursue this goal.

“I believe it’s important to maintain a positive outlook and to never stop learning,” Meagan says. “I try to lead with my heart, celebrate the small wins, and inspire those around me to do the same.”

Meagan embodies what it means to be a champion in health care. Her commitment to patients and her team is a reminder that compassion is powerful – and it changes lives.

Congratulations, Meagan, and thanks for all you do!
