DAISY Award Honoree - Wesh Elisseau

April 10, 2025 Blog, Springfield

It’s time to highlight another 2025 DAISY Award honoree! This recognition is given to nurses who go above and beyond to serve our patients.

Today, we are featuring Wesh Elisseau, an RN in our Labor and Delivery unit. Wesh was nominated by a patient who said his calm presence, clear communication and genuine compassion transformed one of the most overwhelming moments of her life into a truly healing experience.

“After having two babies at another hospital, I decided to have my final baby at Cox South. I came in at 1 o'clock in the morning with a blood pressure of 157/110 on my 40-week mark. My feet were swollen, and I was miserable. They informed me they were going to induce me and moved me to Labor and Delivery. Wesh was my nurse following the shift change. He was amazing - I have never met someone that was so clearly made for the field of work they were in and did it with outstanding compassion.

“Wesh prepped me every step of the way with everything that they were doing - from following my blood pressure to making sure I was comfortable, and helping my spouse with my children until my mom could get there. He had true compassion for my health and my new child. He made sure I was comfortable. He considered every aspect of the situation.

“My son was in the wrong position, so he was on top of it with moving me in the right position. When it came down to the laboring, he talked me through the whole thing. Then came the hard part: I had to have emergency surgery. I was terrified, but he held my hand the entire way. He knew what I needed before I even did.

“He took care of me better than any doctor or nurse I have ever met. Wesh is by far the best nurse I have ever met. I would go back and request him every time. No man or woman alive can compare to the compassion that man has for his patient. He made the bad not so bad. CoxHealth truly has a gem, and I would love to tell my baby about the man that helped his momma bring him into the world. I will never forget him.”
