CoxHealth’s Cardiac Rehab Program earns national recertification

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at CoxHealth’s Wheeler Heart and Vascular Center has once again earned national recognition, receiving recertification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This prestigious designation reflects the program’s continued commitment to excellence in patient care and outcomes.
“This ensures that our staff are up to date on the latest competencies and that we’re providing the highest quality of care for our region,” says Sonny McNeilis, nurse manager for Cardiac Rehab in Springfield.
In addition to Springfield’s achievement, Cox Medical Center Branson has also successfully attained AACVPR certification, marking a significant milestone for both programs. “Branson receiving their certification strengthens our cardiac rehab program as a system,” McNeilis says.
These certifications underscore the dedication of our teams to providing high-quality, evidence-based cardiovascular care.
Further enhancing its offerings, Wheeler Heart and Vascular Center implemented the Pritikin Intensive Cardiac Rehab (ICR) Program in August. This comprehensive outpatient program integrates medically appropriate exercise with lifestyle-change education, focusing on three core pillars: Regular physical activity, a heart-healthy eating plan and a positive mindset.
“The ICR program is highly focused not only on the exercise component, but also the education, which allows us to help patients reach their goals with behavior modification. Cardiac rehabilitation isn’t just about exercise. We’re giving them the tools they need and behavioral modifications for a healthy mindset,” McNeilis shares.
