We utilize Cerner electronic order entry and documentation, as well as electronic medication scanning and administration to provide the highest level of patient safety.
Our patient care team consists of specialized physicians, surgeons, intensivists, nurses, respiratory therapists, clinical pharmacists and metabolic support staff. Our critical care team is supported by advance practice nurses and critical care educators. This education team works in conjunction with unit leaders to offer classroom education, bedside assistance and support, and development opportunities to help you achieve your professional goals.
NTICU
The Neuro Trauma Intensive Care Unit (NTICU) is a 27-bed critical care unit dedicated to caring for patients with diverse medical concerns, including severe neurologic and traumatic injuries. Our patients require constant vigilance, advanced critical care skills, and nurses who are confident, curious, and deeply compassionate.
Our unit is built on teamwork. Nurses work closely with trauma surgeons, neurosurgeons, intensivists, and many other multidisciplinary specialists to manage complex cases and rapidly evolving conditions. Education and professional growth are central to our culture, with an emphasis on evidence-based practice, skill development, and shared learning at the bedside.
What defines NTICU is the people—nurses who support one another, advocate relentlessly for their patients, and take pride in mastering some of the most challenging care in critical care nursing. This is a unit where expertise is earned, collaboration is essential, and the impact of our work is felt every day.
Cardiovascular ICU
The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is a specialized 9‑bed critical care environment dedicated to providing comprehensive, high‑acuity care for patients recovering from cardiothoracic surgery and other complex cardiovascular conditions.
The CVICU is equipped to manage patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring, invasive cardiovascular support, ventilator management, and postoperative stabilization. Nurses collaborate closely with surgeons, physicians, and a wide range of interdisciplinary partners—including respiratory therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy, and case management—to ensure our patients receive the highest quality of care.
MICU
CoxHealth’s 28-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) delivers exceptional, evidence-based care to some of the most critically ill adult medical patients. Our highly skilled nurses and physicians specialize in managing complex, high-acuity conditions requiring advanced critical care interventions. MICU nurses work collaboratively with Respiratory Care, Metabolic Support, clinical pharmacists, and board-certified critical care intensivists to provide comprehensive, compassionate care to every patient. An active, unencumbered Missouri RN license is required. A minimum of three years of critical care experience in a tertiary care setting or similar ICU is preferred. BLS and ACLS certifications are required.
Stepdown Unit
The Stepdown Unit, part of the Critical Care Department, is a 12‑bed unit that cares for highly acute patients who require more monitoring than a standard medical‑surgical floor can provide, but not the full level of intervention offered in the ICU. The Stepdown Unit cares for patients requiring advanced respiratory interventions, cardiac monitoring, and management of complex medical conditions. The team collaborates closely with physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, and case management to deliver coordinated, patient‑centered care.
