Cox South stroke team helps hospital earn national certification

August 15, 2017

Cox South has received certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by DNV GL Healthcare, CoxHealth’s accrediting agency, after a survey in July.

Comprehensive Stroke Centers in the U.S. represent the most advanced stroke treatment available in a given geographic area, providing complete care to patients with the most severe and most complex strokes. This certification encompasses the full spectrum of stoke care – diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education – and establishes clear metrics to evaluate outcomes.

“This designation is emblematic of our incredible team of caregivers who have been relentlessly focused on improving the speed, quality, and overall outcome of stroke care for our community,” says Steve Edwards, president and CEO of CoxHealth. “This is the highest possible designation, and places our team in the company of the best in the country.”

DNV GL’s stroke certification programs incorporate elements from NIAHO hospital accreditation standards, as well as requirements from the Guidelines of the Brain Attack Coalition and recommendations of the American Stroke Association. The emphasis these programs place on deploying a disciplined management system, combined with the relevant clinical best practices, sets the DNV GL stroke certification apart from other programs.

The Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification period is for three years and will include an annual survey team visit to reinforce Cox South’s continued progress and stellar patient care delivery.
