Cox Monett Hospital earns 5-star rating for patient experience

May 5, 2020 Monett

Cox Monett Hospital has earned the prestigious five-star designation in patient satisfaction by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) Summary Star Rating (reporting period: third quarter 2018 through second quarter 2019 discharges) combines all information about the specific aspects of patient care experience measured by the HCAHPS Survey.

The five-star rating puts the hospital in the top six percent of the 3,477 hospitals surveyed nationwide.

"Patients often tell us they are treated like family here,” said Darren Bass, president of Cox Monett Hospital. “The patient experience is at the forefront of everything we do because we know people have a choice when it comes to health care, and we are glad they continue to choose Cox Monett for that personalized service.”

CMS assigns two major star ratings: the HCAHPS Summary Star Rating, based exclusively on patient survey scores, and the Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating, which incorporates outcomes measures as well as patient experience scores. The star ratings range from one to five stars, with five stars being the best.

Cox Monett previously achieved five stars in 2019 based on the reporting period second quarter 2017 through first quarter 2018 discharges.

Cox Barton County Hospital, the second of CoxHealth’s critical-access hospitals, also achieved the five-star rating in patient experience for the latest reporting period. Cox Monett and Cox Barton County are the only two critical access hospitals in the State of Missouri to achieve this high ranking.
