Quality Overview
At CoxHealth, it's our mission to improve the health of the communities we serve through quality health care, education and research. Part of our continuing efforts to improve quality includes publicly reporting certain quality measures recommended by organizations like the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Quality measures can be used to indicate how well a hospital is doing in following guidelines in various areas, such as infection prevention or safety.

This is a preventable infection that sometimes happens when a certain kind of bacteria is spread at the hospital. This can be caused by insufficient disinfection of hands and/or surfaces, or through the prolonged use of some antibiotics. The standard infection ratio (SIR) is the number of observed infections divided by the number of predicted (expected) infections. A lower number is better.
When the predicted infections are less than one, SIR is not calculated. Cox Barton County Hospital's predicted C. Diff infections were less than one per quarter for fiscal year 2018 and 2019.
