Research: Improving the health of our community
Research is taking place throughout CoxHealth, but how often do we get to see the results of those efforts in one place?
Research is taking place throughout CoxHealth, but how often do we get to see the results of those efforts in one place?
Staff
members and students got to do just that during CoxHealth’s first Research Day,
held on Friday in Foster Auditorium.
“CoxHealth
has always been involved in a lot of research, but we have never come together
with all of our disciplines and said, ‘let’s look at this together,’” says Jade
Burgess, nursing educator.
Attendees
saw an overview of research at CoxHealth as well as keynote and research
presentations from Dr. Cheryl Tatano Beck, distinguished professor at the
University of Connecticut School of Nursing.
The day concluded with poster presentations on a wide variety of research projects. Research presented included work from Cox College students, pharmacy residents, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Trauma Services and more.
The event is sponsored by Nursing Education, the Center for Research and Innovation and Cox College.
Organizers hope to make the Research Day an annual gathering, possibly in a larger venue, given that Friday’s event reached its maximum capacity of 200 attendees.
“An
event like this has been a long time coming,” Burgess says. “We are lucky to
have a lot of people passionate about research.”
