Area Esports teams and clubs to host fundraising event supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth
In early November, Esports teams from Drury University, Ozarks Technical Community College and the Missouri State University Esports Club are hosting a gaming event to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth. The event, titled Extra Life Game Day, will be Nov. 4 – 5, 2022, and will raise funds for local children with medical needs through both tabletop and electronic games.
Extra Life is a fundraising program of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, and Game Day is a national event meant to inspire both tabletop and electronic gamers to use their talents to raise money for sick and injured children. Through this local event, area gamers can use their skills to fundraise for children across the Ozarks.
“Esports is at the forefront of both collegiate and high school sporting administrations locally and globally,” says Michael Jones, Esports head coach for Drury University. “Participating in Extra Life Game Day for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals brings additional awareness and support to the medical needs of children in our community. It also provides all team members across schools an opportunity to give back through their passion for gaming. It’s a win for everyone.”
Locally, the Extra Life Game Day event will be broadcast via the Drury University Twitch channel, Drury_Esports (https://twitch.tv/drury_esports), starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. The 24-hour event will feature stories of children helped by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth, interviews by Extra Life participants and CMN Hospitals representatives, and matches by local gamers.
“There are many ways that our community comes together to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth, but this is a unique event that gives students the opportunity to use their gaming skills to help this important cause,” says Tim Siebert, executive director of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth. “It’s exciting to see area students come together to support patients right here in our region.”
