COVID-19 update
The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients is lower now than we have seen since the Spring: Just 32 are currently in our facilities, and the seven-day rate of positivity is only 6.6%. This is great news for our region. However, it’s likely that our new reality is filled with fluctuations, such as how cases have again escalated in Europe. We are closely monitoring the situation, particularly since we are on the cusp of traditional respiratory season, and will be able to adjust if case numbers rise over the coming months.
Pediatric COVID vaccinations
With CDC and Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services approval of pediatric COVID-19 vaccines, we will soon begin administering them to kids ages 5-11. We are waiting on our supply of vaccine and related supplies, which are different for kids than adults, and as soon as they arrive we will open registration. We hope that this will be early next week, at which time appointments may be secured by calling 417-269-1300. That number can also currently be used to schedule doses of vaccine for other approved populations as well.
Hiring update
Last month was another successful one with regard to new employees: It was our greatest October ever for hiring. Over the last four months, we have seen several significant milestones, including our three highest hiring months ever in July, August and September. In total, around 1,500 external hires have joined CoxHealth since July, and we are so happy to have them.
Amanda Belle’s Farm
In the coming weeks, you may notice messaging throughout the community and on CoxHealth.com about Amanda Belle’s Farm, our collaboration with Springfield Community Gardens. It is part of our campaign to share stories of how we are working to serve the region in new ways.
Another focus we recently highlighted as part of this effort is virtual visits in local schools. Since these appointments are offered virtually, they allow parents and students to attend together, reducing time away from work and school when health care is needed.
Voice of the Patient
From inpatient feedback at Cox South: “The best care I have ever been given. The complete staff was excellent.”
Thank you for all you do,
Steve
