CoxHealth adds new procedure for acid reflux

October 8, 2019

There’s a new, minimally invasive procedure now available at CoxHealth to aid patients who suffer from acid reflux.

A small implant, placed around the base of esophagus, is able to keep acid from leaving one’s stomach, eliminating acid reflux altogether.

The concept is simple: A flexible ring of small magnets helps keep the base of the esophagus closed. When patients swallow, the band temporarily opens to allow food to pass through, but closes before acid makes its way into the esophagus.

The procedure – called LINX – lasts lifelong, and eliminates the need for acid reflux medications. Most patients are able to go home within 24 hours of their procedure, and resume a normal diet immediately.

Patients may self-refer for this procedure. Those interested in more information may call 417-875-2796.
