Caregivers invited to free relaxation classes

Watching over a loved one can take a great deal of energy, but it’s important that caregivers still prioritize time for themselves.

As part of CoxHealth’s CarePartner support group, a series of classes soon begins to help those caring for senior adults unwind and relax. The presentations will be held from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. in Conference Room C at The Meyer Center (3545 S. National Ave., Springfield), and are free to attend. Please call 417-269-3616 to register as seating is limited.

Aug. 16: Muscular relaxation Mollie Estes, mind and body coordinator at The Meyer Center, will present exercises to help relax tensed muscles.

Sept. 20: Foods that soothe David Dade, CoxHealth Wellness and Sports nutritionist, will discuss foods that can quickly reduce stress.

Oct. 18: Meditation exercises Mollie Estes will return with meditation exercises to help minds relax and better enjoy quiet moments.

Nov. 15: The power of journaling Dr. Brenda Williams, CoxHealth psychologist, will explain how journaling can bring less stress and positive results

Dec. 20: Humor The topic of humor will be presented through a TED Talk by Sophia Scott, a neuroscientist and stand-up comic, on “Why We Laugh.”

CoxHealth’s CarePartner support group is overseen by the system’s Senior Advantage program, which offers classes, information and assistance just for those 50-plus.
