Levels Students are required to demonstrate dosage calculation competency as follows:

ASN Program: 

  • Prior to beginning of NURS 106 - Level One Competency
  • Prior to beginning of NURS 206 - Level Two Competency
  • Prior to beginning of NURS 208 - Level Three Competency

BSN Accelerated Track:

  • Prior to beginning of NRSI 302 - Level One Competency
  • Prior to beginning of NRSI 310 - Level Two Competency

BSN Entry Track:

  • Prior to beginning of NRSI 302 - Level One Competency
  • Prior to beginning of NRSI 310 - Level Two Competency
  • Prior to beginning of NRSI 404 - Level Three Competency
  • Prior to beginning of NRSI 410 - Level Four Competency

 Student can only try twice to pass the dose calc tests and then they have to remediate.

No pre-registration is necessary. Bring your student ID (required), pencil, and simple four function calculator.  Calculators cannot be shared with other students. Practice exams can be found on the Cox College website.

A 95% must be achieved on the competency exam to progress in the Nursing Program. Retesting can not occur the same day as the failed exam. Each exam may be repeated once within the testing period unless there are no more published dates available. Testing process must be completed within specified testing dates. Failure to pass competency exam will result in following the remediation process.  

Students will be allowed one hour to complete this competency, which will have 20 questions. 

If the student leaves during testing, the exam will be collected and graded at that point whether completed or not.

All test answers must be correctly labeled. Failure to label answers will result in missing the problem.
All work must be shown (Failure to show work will result in missing the problem)
