Student Orientation

An orientation to Cox College is held for new students at the beginning of each semester. The purpose of orientation is to acquaint students with the Cox College mission, core values, programs, facilities and available services. It is strongly suggested that all new students attend.

New students admitted to any nursing track will be required to attend a Department of Nursing orientation. Information about date, time and place of orientation will be included in the new student's acceptance letter.


Child Care 

CoxHealth Child Care Center will provide care for children of students on a space-available basis. The center is open seven days a week, 6:00 a.m. to midnight for children ages 6 weeks through 12 years. A fee is charged. Please call the Child Care Center for additional information.

Food Services- Cafeteria

Students may purchase meals at a discount in the Cox North and Cox South cafeterias by showing their CoxHealth photo badge, and in addition, there are microwaves at the cafeterias and in the college's lower level student lounge and the Academic Resource Center for student use. Vending machines are located on the lower level of the college.

The cafeteria is open from 6:00-10:00 a.m. for breakfast, 11:00 a.m.-1:45 p.m. for lunch, and 4:30-8:30 p.m. for dinner. At other hours, snacks, fruit, beverages and desserts are available for purchase.

If you wish to know what is on the day's menu, call 269-FOOD (3663). The recorded message announces entrees, vegetables, soups, and specials.

Student Lounges

Lounges for study and leisure are available at Cox College. The main student lounge of Cox College is located on the lower level and provides a common area for students to gather and relax.  There are microwaves, vending machines, and a refrigerator for student use on the lower level of the College. A study lounge is located on the third floor. Lockers are available on the second floor, next to the Women's bathroom. Students must provide their own locks and keys.  Due to lockers being limited, the College asks that students remove their items at the end of each day.


Fitness, Recreation and Health

The Meyer Center, a 60,000 square-foot facility, offers members free screenings/assessments, educational opportunities and many other services to assist in the pursuit for a healthy lifestyle. Other fitness centers are located at Cox North and in Willard and Republic. College students may join these centers for a nominal fee which includes a required orientation to the facilities. College students may participate in the Wellness Program offered through CoxHealth at no charge. For more information about the Wellness Program, contact the Wellness Center at 417-269-9140.


Health Services

The Emergency departments at Cox North and Cox South are available to provide services to students who need emergency health services. Non-emergencies are referred to Urgent Care on the Cox Walnut Lawn campus. Students assume total cost of their health care.


Religious Life

Cox College is non-sectarian and respects the religious beliefs of members of the college community. A synagogue, churches of many denominations, and other places of worship are located in Springfield, several within walking distance of the college. Chaplains of CoxHealth and chapels at Cox North and Cox South are also available.
