Cox College has a rich, 105-year history of providing quality health care education in Springfield and southwest Missouri. We began as Burge School of Nursing in 1907, and have since educated more than 2,700 diploma graduates. Those individuals have served as the backbone of the nursing community in our region and beyond. Recognizing that health care in general and the nursing profession in particular are constantly changing, Burge School of Nursing become Cox College in 1995. Today, Cox College provides educational tracks leading to either an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 1999 the Health Sciences department was established and now includes Medical Transcription and Medical Coding/Billing certificates as well as a Dietetic Internship program. In 2008 the Associate of Science in Medical Assisting was added to the college.

Our mission and core values are the backbone of everything we do. Our mission is: "Cox College is committed to excellence by meeting the educational needs of students and the health care community." We are here to provide excellent instructional programs, provide the resources to help students succeed and graduate health care professionals to meet the needs of the health care community. We believe in putting the Student First, meaning the college will provide the resources and support for learning BUT you are accountable for your own learning! You as the student need to take the responsibility to be prepared and ready to participate in the highest quality education, and you need to communicate directly with faculty and staff to maintain open lines of communication. Together, nothing is impossible.
