Internship Requirements and Application

Applications must be submitted by the deadline for the semester you are applying for.



Offer Date

Spring Sept. 5 12-4 p.m., 2nd Tuesday in October
Summer Jan. 5 12-4 p.m., 2nd Tuesday in February
Fall March 15 12-4 p.m., 1st Tuesday in May

The following items are required for the Child Life internship program.


Must have senior status or graduated from a college or university program. Please submit official transcripts from all universities attended, both undergraduate and graduate.

Complete at least 10 CLC-approved courses. Must complete a CLC Coursework Review. X
Minimum 3.0 GPA X

Minimum 100 hours of hospital-based practicum experience demonstrating competence working with children and families

  • Experience in an established Child Life program strongly preferred
  • Hours can be in progress at time of application
  • Students must have competence in Child Life theory



Relevant volunteer work with children and families


Completed CLC Common Internship Application X
Completed essay questions and signature X
Professional résumé and cover letter X
Three letters of recommendation (two must have observed and/or supervised your experience with children) X

Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered. Postmark must be by the application deadlines.

Each application will be reviewed to ensure that the applicant meets all requirements as listed above.

Submitting a completed application does not guarantee an interview or placement. Only the most qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview. An on-site interview is preferred, though a phone interview can be arranged due to travel constraints. On-site interviews allow you to see our program/hospital facilities and help our department get to know you better.
