Join our team of volunteers
When Glenda Patterson of Springfield visited Cox South she always noticed the individuals in teal jackets - volunteers at CoxHealth.
"The volunteers are always so helpful. This prompted me to find out about volunteering at the hospital," says Patterson.
Soon she was volunteering at the Cox South Gift Shop one day a week.
"I assist customers who need help finding a specific item. I also help with the flower and candy bouquets by making sure they get to the correct patient and location," says Patterson, who has been an active volunteer for six years.
Patterson says she enjoys meeting people and helping others, and recommends becoming a volunteer at CoxHealth. Other volunteer opportunities include sewing projects, transporting patients, staffing the information desks, clerical duties, working on nursing units, being a cuddle therapist in the pediatric intensive care unit and helping with fundraising projects, to name a few.
"To become a volunteer you first submit an application, go through an interview and attend an orientation class," explains Barbara Frogue, director of Volunteer Services.
Frogue says that volunteering has many benefits such as lowering your stress level, boosting your immune system and providing a sense of accomplishment.
