When there's an emergency, we're ready
Located on the south side of Cox South is the new Emergency and Trauma Center. The new Center offers some of the nation's most advanced imaging technology, an on-site lab, state-of-the-art disaster management facilities and enhanced privacy and comfort - all in a space designed around the needs of patients and families.
The green-friendly design of the Center integrates natural lighting and colors of the Ozarks, artwork from local artists and a history wall documenting more than 100 years of the hospital's history. Inside the Center is a dedicated chapel and outside is a healing garden.
As one of the largest Emergency departments in Missouri, the facility has 62 beds, all in private rooms. This increase in beds allows staff to work with more patients at once, helping to move patients through more quickly. Annually, more than 110,000 patients will be able to receive care in the new 78,000 square feet facility.
The Center's sophisticated technology includes a CT that can scan a child's head in less than 3 seconds - CoxHealth is the third Emergency department in the nation to have this capability. This low radiation CT scan helps physicians diagnose medical conditions.
Other capabilities include a secure tubing system that transports containers with medicine, paper records or blood samples from the new Emergency and Trauma Center to the main hospital. A command center for community disasters can provide a live audio/video link to the Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management. An ambulance garage door opens in approximately 2 seconds via a pressure-sensitive driveway.
And with dedicated trauma beds for the most critically ill patients, two new helicopter pads and an area devoted to patients who need monitoring for 24 hours or less, this team is ready.
