Cox College enrollment up nearly 14 percent

Fall semester enrollment at Cox College is up 13.6 percent, to 510 students. Last year, 441 students were enrolled with the college.  College president Dr. Anne Brett says the increase represents a "significant jump" in enrollment over the past year, and attributes the increase to a number of factors.

"Our health sciences programs have doubled enrollment, and both our medical assisting and Master of Science in nursing programs are new this year," she says. "We've added students for those areas, and we instituted a guaranteed admission program which provides students direct entry into the nursing program, so our general education numbers are up as well."

Along with increased enrollment, the college has noticed an increase in the number of third-party payers such as the Missouri Career Center. The center helps people who have lost their jobs due to downsizing and outsourcing find new employment and learn new skills. "We don't have a breakdown of those numbers available yet, but there is definitely an increase," says Brett. The college has also seen a rise in the number of students using Pell Grants.

Cox College was founded in 1907. The college currently offers Master of Science in nursing, Bachelor of Science in nursing, Associate of Science in nursing and Associate of Science in medical assisting degrees; an accelerated BSN and an RN-to-BSN program; certificate programs in medical transcription and medical billing/coding; and a dietetic internship.
