Construction Updates

CoxHealth is pleased to continue expanding and growing to meet the changing needs of our community.

Watch our progress LIVE

As our community grows, so do their needs for increased medical services. CoxHealth is responding to those needs with a number of new projects to ensure that we live our vision: To be the best for those who need us!

When you visit our facilities in the coming months and years, you will likely see the signs of that growth as construction and expansion projects continue throughout our system. Our goal is for this growth to cause as little disruption to "business as usual" at our facilities, but at times certain areas may require different means of access than our visitors are used to.

TRAFFIC ALERT:
National Avenue/James River Freeway Project

Increased driving delays are expected on National Avenue at the James River Freeway (Route 60) starting Nov. 5, as a road construction project shifts to its next stage, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The traffic pattern change includes reducing National Avenue to only one southbound lane for a short distance south of Primrose Street. It will be fully in place by Nov. 6, and will remain in effect through the spring of 2010.

Drivers who need to reach nearby CoxHealth facilities, including Cox South Hospital, and the many other businesses along National Avenue WILL be able to do so, but it probably will take more time to get there. However, drivers who use National Avenue to commute through the area, especially southbound during afternoon rush hour, are urged to find other routes to avoid the construction and reduce the congestion along the corridor.

Construction of an underpass and service road underneath National Avenue - half at a time - is about to begin. That is why it is necessary to narrow down National Avenue and shift traffic to the east side of the street.

OUTPATIENT ENTRANCE CLOSED:
Cox South: New Entrance West of Outpatient Entrance

Due to construction of our new Emergency Department on the Cox South campus, the south entrance to the Outpatient Center is now closed. Visitors can enter the hospital by using the new walkway that connects the parking garage to the west entry of the Outpatient Center. Read more

TRAFFIC ALERT:
Cox South: Outpatient Parking & East Entrance to Parking Garage
Traffic Routing Maps

The roadway connecting the outpatient parking lot and the east entrance to the parking garage on the Cox South campus is currently closed. Signs will direct visitors to an alternate route, a new outer roadway which will eventually provide access to the new Emergency Department.

Cox Walnut Lawn / Meyer Orthopedic Center

We are growing to better serve our community and are excited to bring our patients a new and improved Cox Walnut Lawn Hospital. Until the completion of this project in the fall of 2010, we want to make sure our patients, families and visitors find their way safely to the correct entrances to Cox Walnut Lawn Hospital and The Meyer Center for Outpatient Rehabilitation services.

Cox South Emergency Department

CoxHealth will break ground in spring 2009 for a 78,000-square foot Level II Emergency department adjacent to the current Outpatient Center. The new ED will house five trauma rooms, 57 universal exam rooms and a 26-bed observation unit. In addition, it will have an embedded radiology department that will include an MRI suite, CT scans, ultrasound rooms and X-ray and fluoroscopy rooms.
