Inpatient detox

Inpatient medical detoxification services are provided on the medical units of CoxHealth. Detoxification from alcohol and/or other mood altering drugs is a sometimes necessary first step in the overall process of recovery from drug dependence. The detoxification process often requires close medical management of the more severe withdrawal symptoms to ensure the overall safety and well-being of the dependent patient.

In order to help patients make decisions regarding additional services necessary for successful recovery, staff members from the Center for Addictions meet with each patient during their detoxification admission to explain various treatment options and assist with discharge planning.

Partial Hospitalization

Partial hospitalization is the most intensive level of outpatient treatment services provided by the Center for Addictions. It combines much of the intensity and structure of an inpatient or residential program, with the freedom and lower costs of outpatient services.

Patients attend full-day treatment services, five days a week (Monday through Friday), and return to their own homes in the evenings and on weekends. Length of stay varies and often patients are "steppeddown" through a continuum of outpatient services prior to discharge.

Intensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient is the most utilized and versatile level of service offered by the Center for Addictions.

Available in morning and evening formats, patients are able to receive a very focused core of addiction services, often with minimal disruption to their work, school or lifestyle schedules. Intensity can be varied by adjusting treatment between a three- and five-day per week schedule and length of stay varies in relation to individual needs.

Psychological testing/assessment

Any patient receiving services at the Center for Addictions who requests or would benefit from a psychological assessment may participate in an interview with a licensed psychologist. This service assists the patient and counselor in better understanding the role of emotions and their impact on addictions.

The results of your psychological assessment are discussed with the psychologist and processed with your individual counselor. As such, the psychological assessment partners with your primary program in assisting with your recovery.

Individual counseling

Individual counseling is an integral part of all levels of outpatient services provided by the Center for Addictions. Patients are able to participate in individual counseling separate from other levels of services when seen as clinically viable to meet their treatment needs, or more often, as follow-up to more intensive treatment levels.

Continuing Care

It is our philosophy that addiction is a primary, chronic and progressive disease. Continued recovery following primary treatment is best facilitated by a patient's involvement in a structured and individualized program of recovery and relapse prevention.

To aid each patient in achievement of that goal, we provide a Continuing Care program free of charge to all patients completing primary treatment at the Center for Addictions. We recommend a minimum of six months continuous involvement, but do not limit involvement beyond that time.

Continuing Care assists clients in maintaining changes they began working on while in the initial treatment phase. Groups are led by an addictions counselor and focus on the following topics:

  • relapse prevention
  • maintaining a sober lifestyle
  • continued education about recovery
  • resolving issues in recovery
  • accountability

DOT assessments

Division of Transportation drug and alcohol abuse and/or return-to-work assessments can be arranged through the Center for Addictions working in conjunction with local area Substance Abuse Professionals (SAP). Follow-up treatment to meet the recommendations of the SAP is arranged through the Center for Addictions.

Medication Assisted Treatment

Medication management needs are evaluated and determined by our medical staff.  Medical management of addiction can help patients remain in treatment and help better control withdrawal symptoms and cravings, allowing patients to focus on avoiding triggers and working with staff to address issues that may contribute to relapse.  MAT may include the use of buprenorphine (Subutex/Suboxone), Campral, Antabuse, Naltrexone, antidepressants or other medications deemed necessary by the treatment team to better help patients manage symptoms of their disease.
