CoxHealth medical flight crew cares for patient in helicopterCox Air Care operates from a home base in Springfield, staffed by four full-time flight nurses and four full-time paramedics, in addition to a crew of trained and experienced pilots and ground crew professionals. Cox Air Care is the only air medical flight program physically based in Springfield, Mo., and was the first in southwest Missouri to become accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS).

Launched in 1989, Cox Air Care boasts a proud record of more than 15,000 accident-free flights transporting critically ill and injured patients throughout the region. Since 2001, it has met the rigorous standards of accreditation set by CAMTS.

Cox Air Care's mission is to transport those critically ill or injured to tertiary care facilities throughout the area. Our coverage area includes all of southwest Missouri and parts of northwest Arkansas. We operate 24/7 with a flight crew that consists of a flight nurse, flight paramedic and a pilot. Our MD 902 Explorer aircraft is based at Cox South.

Cox Air Care services southwest Missouri and northwest ArkansasCAMTS is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical transport services. Accreditation is a voluntary process that includes the evaluation of patient care and safety in fixed and rotorwing services, as well as ground and interfacility services. In addition to an initial application process, an on-site visit is conducted and reviews are made of the CoxHealth flight program and its integration with other hospital departments such as emergency, critical care and dispatch. Cox Air Care was found to demonstrate "a steady balance in all dynamic components of the program."

At Cox Air Care we pride ourselves on safety, and we would not be able to achieve any mission without the maintenance staff, pilots, communication specialists and medical crews all cooperating as a team.
