Safety is of paramount importance to helicopter operations. Without the help of first responder and fire department personnel the risks involved increase dramatically.
Landing zones should be roughly 60 feet by 60 feet during the day and 100 feet X 100 feet at night, free of debris and with as minimal a slope as possible. (Less than 5 degrees and on a firm surface). Click Landing Zone to print or view a picture of this. Click Max Slope to view and print a picture of the maximum slope area.
There are three areas to be aware of when approaching and departing the aircraft. These Zones are viewable and printable here. Remember always approach and depart the aircraft from the front to avoid the tail rotor. The front of the aircraft is the safe zone, but never approach an aircraft unless instructed to do so by the pilot or flight crew.
