During public relations activities, safety events and community education, Cox Air Care personnel field many questions regarding "Elsie II," the helicopter, and the CoxHealth flight program. Here we have compiled the most commonly asked questions and answers about Cox Air Care. If you are unable to find the answer to your question here, just send an e-mail to one of the crew. Q. How high do you fly?
A. We fly around 2,500 feet above sea level.
Q. How many people are on board the helicopter?
A. There are at least three crew members, and one patient can be transported.
Q How far do you fly?
A. That depends on the incident, but we fly to Kansas City, Columbia, St. Louis, etc.

Q. What kind of helicopter do you fly?
A. We use a MD 902 Explorer. If you would like additional information, click the Helicopter page.
Q. How are you dispatched?
A. A requesting agency can call 1-800-333-5269, and the communications specialists can send us on the way.
Q. How do you find the scene?
A. The communications specialists locate it by map or computer, then send the GPS location to the pilot.
Q. How do I become a flight nurse or flight paramedic?
A. After completing your licensure in either discipline, you then build on experience and education.
Q. How much experience and education do I need?
A. Flight nurses are required three years critical care, and paramedics at least two years on an ALS ambulance.
